“ಬಾನಂಗಳದಿ ಜೊತೆಗೂಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಮೋಡ,
ಅದೇ ಬಾನಿಂದ ಹಕ್ಕಿಯೊಂದು ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತಿಹುದು ತನ್ನ ಗೂಡ;
ಧೂಳೆಬ್ಬಿಸುವ ಗಾಳಿಯೊಡನೆ ಕಾದು ಬಿಸಿಯಾದ ಇಳೆ,
ಅತ್ತಿತ್ತ ನೋಡುವಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲೇ ಧರೆಗಿಳಿಯಿತು ಆ ಮುಂಗಾರು ಮಳೆ;

 ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದಲೋ ಬಂದು ಈ ಮಳೆಯೊಡನೆ ಸೇರಿ,
ಮರದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಎಲೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೇರಿ,
ಎಲೆಯ ಮರೆಯೆಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವೆನೆಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಿ,
ಕಾದಿದ್ದೆ ನಾ ಹೊಸ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಬಯಸಿ; [2]

 ಇಳಿದೆ ನಾ ಮರದ ಹನಿಗಳಾಗಿ,
ನಿಂತೆ ನಾ ಕೆಳಗೆ – ನಿಂತ ನೀರಾಗಿ; [2]
ಆವರಿಸಿದ ಕತ್ತಲೆಯೊಡನೆ ನಡುಗಿಸಿದರೂ ಆ ತಂಪಾದ ಗಾಳಿ,
ನಿಂತೆ ನಾ ನನ್ನ ಭಯವ ಬಿಟ್ಟು,
ನಿಂತೆ ನಾ ನನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬೇಸರವ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿ; [2]

 ಮುಂಜಾನೆಯ ಕಿರು ಬೆಳಕಿನಲಿ,
ಕಂಡೆನಾ ಹರಿದುಬರುವ ನಿನ್ನ,
ಕರೆದೊಯ್ದೆ ನೀ ನನ್ನ..
ನಾ ಸೇರಬೇಕಾದ ಈ ನದಿಯನ್ನ; [2]

ಪ್ರೀತಿಯದು ಕೂಡಿಸುವುದು ಹನಿಹನಿಗಳನ್ನ,
ಬಯಸದಿರು ನೀ ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಆ ಮರದ ಎಲೆಗಳನ್ನ,
ಬಯಸಿದರು ನೀನು –
ಹಿಡಿಯಲಾಗದು ಆ ಎಲೆಗೆ ಬೀಳುವ ಹನಿಗಳನ್ನ,
ಹಿಡಿಯಲಾಗದು ಆ ಎಲೆಗೆ ಬೀಳುವ ಹನಿಗಳನ್ನ..”
